Release Sandeshkhali BJP leader Mampi Das from jail: Calcutta HC
As the Kolkata North elections loom just one month away, an unexpected turn of events unfolded as Trinamool leader Kunal Ghosh and BJP candidate Tapas Roy shared a platform ahead of the polls. Despite both emphasizing that the meeting was apolitical, Ghosh and Roy openly praised each other, causing discomfort within Trinamool's ranks, particularly for Sudeep Banerjee.
Ghosh's remarks, especially his comment that he cannot hold Roy back as a representative of the people, highlighted the ongoing tension within Trinamool. The duo, who had previously joined forces against Trinamool's Calcutta North MP Sudeep Banerjee, maintained their solidarity despite Roy's transition to BJP and subsequent nomination from Kolkata North. Speaking at a blood donation camp in Kolkata Municipality's Ward No. 38, Ghosh commended Roy, stating, "Tapas is very dear to us. His doors are open day and night for workers, common people." Ghosh's statements stirred controversy, especially as they came amid Banerjee's own roadshow in Kolkata North Center.
In response, Roy reciprocated the praise, referring to Ghosh as his "much-loved younger brother" and commending his organizational skills. Reflecting on Ghosh's imprisonment and subsequent loyalty to Trinamool, Roy highlighted the sincerity of Ghosh's words and hinted at potential shifts in voter support.
